How does a woman in her 40’s become a fashion designer?

“Life is to be lived.  If you have to support yourself, you had bloody well better find some way that is going to be interesting.  And you don’t do that by sitting around.”

Katharine Hepburn

The year I turned 40 was fabulous for many reasons but most of all because it was the year I finally got my shit together and decided what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.  Over a cup of coffee shared with a good friend, I blurted out “I want to be a fashion designer” and braced myself for the inevitable ribbing.  But it didn’t come.  Instead, my good friend told me to go for it.  By 7pm that evening I was attending an open evening at the local college and signing myself up for 2 years of hard work, blood, sweat & tears…….and £5,000 in course fees.

Two years on, armed with my shiny new qualification in Art & Design (Fashion & Clothing), I’m embarking on what I hope will be an absolutely fabulous adventure.
