Chic & Ethical, my Boho Block Print dress is a limited edition piece, handmade from Organic Fair Trade cotton and available Made to Order from my Etsy Store.
I’ve been in a bit of a style transition phase recently, moving towards a more pared down look – channelling Capucine Safyurtlu et al. But, as the weather begins to warm up, I gravitate back to bohemian styling with greater emphasis on texture, contrast and surface pattern.
The idea for the design of this dress occurred the minute I found this gorgeous hand block-print fabric. Block printing is a traditional Indian method of creating surface pattern in textiles, worked by hand rather than machine. I’m a huge fan of block prints and plan to buy some traditional blocks to create my own textiles later this year.
Structure through the bodice & skirt together with the flow of the wide sleeves creates the perfect compromise in this design, meaning that it can be as sharp or as relaxed as you need to feel when you wear it. Styled here with an Isabel Marant belt and Topshop “Blink” fringed suede boots for cooler spring days but great styled with strappy leather sandals once the summer arrives.
